Pat Raman, with a 35 year career in international banking and finance, brings a wealth of expertise
and a profound knowledge of international markets, having lived and worked in India, South East Asia, Africa,
Europe and North America.
A strategic thinker with an abiding interest in international trade, he has
successfully assisted client corporations with their business strategy, innovative financing solutions and business
issues in diverse markets.
Pat Raman specializes in helping Canadian companies navigate the complex terrain
of business development, market entry, partnering, structuring and outsourcing initiatives with companies in India
and vice-versa.
As Board member of the Indo-Canadian, Indo-Italian and Indo-EU Chambers of
Commerce in India, he has actively provided support to companies and foreign trade delegations from Europe and
Canada to India and from India to Canada.
As Executive Director of TiE Toronto from 2005-2008, he has been involved
with supporting and organizing sector focused business delegations to and from India.
Background
Commencing his banking career in 1967, he worked in India and South East
Asia for 8 years gaining valuable experience in the major centers of commerce and trade.
Moving to the UK in 1975, he worked for 3 years with a British corporate group in
Africa and the U.K., in project finance and trade, managing two group companies engaged in the infrastructure
supply sector.
Returning to international banking, with Banca Intesa (formerly Banca
Commerciale Italiana), a leading European Bank he served for over 24 years, holding challenging
assignments in Europe, Asia and Canada, focused on foreign trade, project and corporate
finance.
During an 8-year stint in Luxembourg, he developed the bank’s trade finance and
advisory department, successfully setting up an active trade desk and structuring several multi-million dollar
international trade transactions.
Initiating and heading the bank’s operations in India for 9 years (1992-2000) he
developed a profound knowledge of the Indian market and a strong professional network of contacts, crucial for
operating in this complex market.
During his tenure, he vastly improved the bank’s share of the Indo-Italian and
Indo-European trade markets, actively supporting the bank’s global clients with a wide range of logistic,
advisory and financial services for their business with and in India.
During his two terms in Canada as senior executive with Intesa Bank, he
successfully developed profitable trade operations in setting up new relationships in Europe and
Asia.
A passionate and motivated professional with strong interpersonal and
communication skills, he is also fluently multi-lingual in English, French, Italian, Hindi, Tamil &
Kannada.
